Mr. Mersch founded Point Source, Inc. in 1992, to facilitate the incorporation of new photonic (electro-optic) technologies into products, focusing primarily in the medical field. To the present time, Mr. Mersch has established long term business relationships with Becton Dickinson, Johnson & Johnson, Beckman Coulter, Procter & Gamble, Pitney Bowes, and Diebold among others. He has developed products for these companies and through the manufacturing capability of Point Source, Inc. he is currently supplying these products. He has won and completed an SBIR contract with NASA for space based medical diagnostic devices. Point Source, Inc. is a financially successful and growing business. (www.pointsource-inc.com)

Prior to this, Mr Mersch was a Senior Scientist at Ethicon Endo-Surgery (A Johnson & Johnson Co.), and was the project leader in the development of new surgical tools to be used in minimally invasive surgery. Projects included developing a glare eliminating filter for laparoscopes, investigating optical biopsy for intraoperative diagnostics, investigating applications of diode lasers to minimally invasive surgery and developing new techniques and instruments to maintain hemostasis endoscopically.

Between 1984 and 1991, Mr Mersch was a Research Physicist at Becton Dickinson Polymer Research – involved in the research and development of novel electro-optical devices for the medical field. This included new medical devices, improvements to existing products, and devices for and improvements to high volume production lines. He worked on new products and product improvements for the diagnostic business, including conception through pre production prototype. His products included blood analysis devices and bacteria sensing devices.

Mr. Mersch was involved in the University of Dayton Research Institute High Energy Laser test program with the USAF, as an Associate Research Physicist. This involved off-site testing and subsequent reporting to Air Force sponsors. He worked extensively in holography and Infrared studies while at the Research Institute. His last two years there were spent primarily in establishing and leading research for industrial sponsors. Mr. Mersch also taught Physics classes part time at the Sinclair Community College and the University of Dayton.

Mr. Mersch has a B.S. degree in Science Education, Miami University, Ohio, 1977, an M.S. degree in Physics – Graduated Cum Laude (emphasis Biophysics) and Miami University, Ohio, 1979. Mr. Mersch has 30 issued patents, and three patents pending.
