Christopher Bishop

Chief Reinvention Officer, Improvising Careers

Christopher Bishop is a technology futurist, TEDx speaker, LinkedIn Learning instructor and former IBMer. He is passionate about the power of emerging technologies to positively transform business and culture, especially quantum information science. 

Chris has performed the role of Master of Ceremonies at the past three Inside Quantum Technology virtual events and also moderated a panel on “Building a Quantum-competent Workforce.” He is also a member of the Quantum Economic Development Consortium and contributes to the Workforce Technology Advisory Committee. 

Chris writes and speaks on quantum information science, artificial intelligence, cryptoassets, blockchain, fintech, augmented/virtual reality and robotics, especially the implications of these technologies on the workforce. 

Worth noting that Chris created a live-action course for LinkedIn Learning called “Future-proofing your data science career” and co-authored a white paper with MIT Media Lab professor Sandy Pentland titled Blockchain+AI+Human”, describing the business possibilities as well as the powerful socio-cultural implications of connecting AI and blockchain. 

David Von Dollen

Lead Data Scientist, Volkswagen Group

David is a Lead Data Scientist focusing on Machine Learning and High Performance/Quantum Computing research and application development for the Volkswagen Group. David holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science with a specialization in machine learning from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and is currently working towards a PhD at Leiden University at the Leiden Institute for Advanced Computer Science. He has over ten years’ worth of experience researching, developing, and deploying data and machine learning products for enterprise companies across a variety of business domains. His current work involves accelerating machine learning and optimization algorithms with new techniques using quantum computers. 

Davide Venturelli

Associate Director, Quantum Information Sciences, USRA – Sr. Scientist NASA Quantum AI Lab, USA , USRA - NASA

Davide Venturelli is currently Associate Director for Quantum Computing of the Research Institute of Advanced Computer Science at USRA. He works in the NASA Intelligent System Division (TI) at the Quantum AI Laboratory (QuAIL) as a senior research scientist under the NASA Academic Mission Service contract, invested in research projects dealing with quantum optimization applications and their near-term implementation in real hardware, in a hardware-software co-design approach. He teaches Quantum Integer Programming as an adjunct professor at Carnegie Mellon University.

Donna Cattanach

Donna Cattanach has 15+ years Wall St. career in both Finance and Technology! She also has other degrees. Currently at Phoenix College and Coconino CC as a tutor in Data Science, Python, R, and, in quite a contrast, helps ESL students with their writing.  

Doug Finke

Managing Editor , Quantum Computing Report

Doug Finke is Managing Editor of the Quantum Computing Report which he founded in 2015 so he could apply his wide breadth of experience to help accelerate the proliferation of quantum computing to the general marketplace. He started his career as a mainframe computer design engineer at IBM and subsequently served in a variety of executive roles in marketing, engineering, and operations at Intel, STEC, Western Digital, Corning and several start-up companies. Doug holds degrees in computer engineering and management from the University of Illinois and MIT, respectively. 

Dr Anish Agarwal

An informed opinion Leader and the go-to person in the field of Data Analytics, Data Visualisation, Strategy Design, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Dr.Anish is a trusted expert who has moved and inspired people and organisations with innovative ideas, scaling them into sustainable change not just in one company but in an industry, niche or across an entire ecosystem, globally. 

Dr. Anish has authored more than 15 articles on various subjects related to Artificial Intelligence and advanced Data & Analytics and delivered keynote sessions in more than 70 national and international conferences. Some of his most well-known work as an AI Leader includes: The interlock between Artificial Intelligence & Quantum Computing; Application of Artificial Intelligence in Wireless Communications; Boosting Memory-Based Collaborative Filtering Using Content-Metadata and Artificial Intelligence & Ethics (Issues and conversations keep AI experts up at night). 

Along with his technical contributions to the field, he is also a leading voice at the national level for advocating for ethics and diversity in AI and STEM and has received numerous awards and recognition for his work. He also spends time mentoring aspiring Data Scientists and has also been recognised as Top Five Data Science mentors in India. 

He is on panel of a number of AI themed industry bodies. He is also a member of the advisory board of colleges/ universities intending to set-up structured courses on Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. He is an alumnus of Harvard Business School and MIT Sloan Business School and is also a visiting guest faculty in a number of colleges and universities in India. 

Dr Araceli Venegas-Gomez

Founder and CEO, QURECA

Dr Araceli Venegas-Gomez spent several years working for Airbus in Germany and France as an aerospace engineer, before falling in love with quantum mechanics. She then decided to follow her passion for physics, and moved to Scotland to pursue a PhD in quantum simulation at the University of Strathclyde. Following discussions with the different quantum stakeholders she had over the last years, Araceli identified the need to bridge the gap between businesses and academia, as well as to raise the quantum awareness to the general public. Continuing her work on outreach advocating quantum technologies, she was named the “quantum ambassador”, after winning the Optical Society Milton and Rosalind Chang Pivoting fellowship in 2019. Araceli founded her own company called QURECA (Quantum Resources and Careers) to create a link between the different stakeholders in the quantum community through a common language, and to generate global opportunities with quantum technologies. QURECA provides a range of professional services, business development, and the solution to the quantum workforce skills bottleneck: the first online platform for quantum training and resourcing, to support individuals and businesses to be part of the quantum revolution.

Dr Bhushan Bonde

Head of Innovation Development at IT-Early Solutions , UCB

Dr Bhushan Bonde is the Head of Innovation Development at IT-Early Solutions, UCB. He received PhD in Systems Biology and Mathematical Modelling, with an interdisciplinary background of Computing, Biology and Mathematical Biology from Oxford (2006), an interdisciplinary M. Tech in Bioprocess technology/Chemical Eng. (2001) and Bachelors in Pharmacy (1998). He has more than 15 years of experience in Computational Biology, Systems Biology and application of computational algorithms for Drug Discovery. 

Dr Sonali Mohapatra

Space Applications Lead, Craft Prospect Ltd

Dr Sonali Mohapatra works as Space Quantum Technologies Deputy Lead at the Space Engineering Company, Craft Prospect and has an IAA research fellowship with the University of Strathclyde. With a PhD in quantum gravity and theoretical physics and interdisciplinary experience spanning optics, AI and quantum information, Sonali brings quantum expertise into the space sector. She has previously worked as part of the LIGO Gravitational Wave detector team at Caltech, California. She is currently leading quantum modelling and QKD demonstration as part of the technical team of the upcoming ROKS mission which will be launched in 2022. Along with that she is also researching other early-stage quantum technologies such as QRNGs which can benefit from translation into space applications. 

Apart from that, Sonali has extensive experience in the EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) sector, is a board member of QIndia (Quantum India), one of the founding members of the SSLC new voices in Space Group focussing on diversity and inclusion and is the founder of the queer/feminist platform, Carved Voices. Sonali published her first poetry collection, Leaking Ink in 2016 and is currently working on her next manuscript. She is passionate about outreach and regularly writes articles and speaks about her work. 

Jan Novotny

eFX Quant , Nomura

Jan Novotny (PhD, Charles University, Czech Republic) is an eFX Quant at Nomura and a research associate to the Centre for Econometric Analysis of Cass Business School in London. Before his current role, he was a front office quant at Deutsche Bank and HSBC in the electronic FX markets. Before joining the industry, he was working in the Centre for Econometric Analysis on the high-frequency time series econometric models and was visiting lecturer at Cass Business School, giving lectures at Warwick Business School or Politecnico di Milano. He has co-authored several papers in peer-reviewed journals in Finance (Journal of Financial Econometrics, Journal of Financial Markets) and Physics (Physica A, The European Physical Journal A), co-authored the book Machine Learning and Big Data with kdb+/q, Wiley), 2019, and presented at numerous conferences and workshops around the world. During his PhD studies, he co-founded Quantum Finance CZ. He is a Machine Learning enthusiast and explores kdb+/q for this purpose. In addition, he is giving lectures on classical and quantum machine learning. 

José Luis Perán

Innovation Manager, Comunytek

José Luis Perán is Innovation Manager at Comunytek, a leading company in financial technology consulting services in Spain. He has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Murcia and has certifications in AI and Big Data from the Universities of Berkeley and MIT. He is currently focused on the research and development of artificial intelligence and blockchain solutions for large companies in the financial sector and works in wide fields of development as sustainability, language processing, ethical AI, analysis and prediction of market behavior or application of graphs in the financial sector. José Luis began his career in critical environment maintenance working for Accenture in the healthcare sector. He has worked for large companies such as BT, implementing complex IT, communications and contact center solutions and delivering new services for clients such as Carrefour, Telepizza or IAG. 

Lee-Ann Ramcherita

Head of Seat Architecture – Cabin & Cargo , Airbus

Lee-Ann, Flight Physics Innovation and Marketable Services Leader, is an aeronautical engineer with a broad spectrum of experience primarily in civil aviation with Airbus. This includes stress engineering in repairs and system installation across Airbus products as well as flight physics disciplines focused on maturing innovative technologies which have potential business value. Quantum Computing has the potential to transform the manner in which Flight Physics computes complex calculations in the future and is the reason Lee-Ann has co-led the Airbus Quantum Computing Challenge to bridge industry challenges and Quantum Computing. Prior to her work at Airbus, Lee-Ann started her career in structural engineering working on Rooivalk helicopters, Gripen and A400M.

Mikko Möttönen

Associate Professor (tenured) of Quantum Technology, Aalto University | Co-Founder, IQM Quantum Computers

In 2019, Mikko Möttönen was appointed to his present post as an Associate Professor (tenured) of Quantum Technology shared between Aalto University and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. He also co-founded a quantum-computer company IQM as a spinout from his research.

Presently, Mikko’s QCD Labs focuses on integrating engineered normal-metal reservoirs into quantum-mechanically behaving electronic devices such as superconducting qubits.

Peter Rutten

Research Director, Infrastructure Systems, Platforms, and Technologies, IDC

Mr. Rutten is IDC’s lead analyst for performance-intensive computing (PIC), which includes heterogenous infrastructure for AI, modelling & simulation, and data analytics. His focus is on high-end computing, supercomputing, accelerated computing, massively parallel computing, in-memory computing, and quantum computing. 

Sarfraz Nawaz

Senior Manager, Digital & Innovation, J&J Supply Chain , Johnson and Johnson

Sarfraz is a former data scientist who helped develop large scale platform and analytics capabilities, at big tech & startups. Currently he is driving Digital & Innovation at J&J’s Supply Chain organization. Previously, he led development of an industry-leading digital attribution solution with an analytics startup. During his time at Microsoft, Sarfraz was part of the early team building data & analytics infrastructure for Bing, which ultimately form the building blocks for Microsoft Azure. He holds an MS in Information Retrieval from Columbia University and is a classically trained vocalist

Taha Jaffer

Taha Jaffer is Head of Wholesale Banking and Global Treasury AI at Scotia Bank. In this role, Taha is responsible for end-to-end delivery of “big box” AI projects in Global Treasury, Global Banking & Markets, Commercial Banking, and Wealth with impact targets in the $10M-$50M range. He leads a team of 25 who focus on alternative data, AI & ML and and quantum computing specifically applied to capital markets and finance.

Utpal Chakraborty

Utpal Chakraborty is an eminent data scientist, AI researcher, strategist and thought leader with more than two decades of industry experience, including as a principal architect in Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Infotech, IBM, Capgemini and other MNCs including heading the Artificial Intelligence division of YES Bank. Utpal is a well-known speaker and author on artificial intelligence, Quantum Computing, IoT, as well as Agile & Lean and has spoken at conferences around the world. His recent research on machine learning titled “Layered Approximation for Deep Neural Networks” and his books “Artificial intelligence for All” and “Artificial intelligence and 4th Industrial Revolution” has been appreciated at several conferences, institutions, and universities.
